Location

The property is in the Valencian region in the province of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca, between Torrevieja and Orihuela. The nearest village is Torremendo (pop. 1,000, small shops, bank, bars, restaurant, filling station).

The nearest township is San Miguel de Salinas (pop. 15,000, with large UK expat community). There are good restaurants, bars, hardware and food shops, a post office, doctor, dentist, and weekly street market.

Neighbourhood

The site is on a hillside, overlooking a reservoir, in rolling countryside. The area is sparsely populated, agricultural land, growing oranges and almonds. There are areas of abandoned terraces of lemons and oranges and miles of old tracks around the lakeside wooded hills to climb in solitude.

Our neighbours are old Spanish couples who make a meagre living from their goats, and live in houses which have been in their families for centuries. In recent years, seven retired expats have bought large plots of neglected land, and built their own substantial houses in the area.

The property is one of three, which formed the original 'Finca Los Ballesteres'. The immediate neighbours are an old Spanish couple, and an expat Dutch lady.
